Actress Constance Wu tried to commit suicide after abuse on Twitter

Facing an outpouring of criticism for his comments on the sitcom Hot off the presswho had made her a star in the United States, she had decided to end her life.

American actress Constance Wu, one of the stars of the film Crazy Rich Asians (2018), attempted suicide three years ago, following comments about her on social media, she said Thursday.

Constance Wu, 40, faced a torrent of criticism in 2019 for her Twitter comments — which were scorned by social media users — about the sitcom Hot off the pressin which she played.

Unable to face the humiliation and message of another Asian-American actress who called her “a plague to the Asian-American community,” she had decided to end her life.

“I felt like I didn’t even deserve to live anymore. That I was a disgrace to the AsAms (Asian Americans, Asian Americans, editor’s note)and that they would be better off without me,” Constance Wu wrote in a lengthy Twitter post on Thursday. “Luckily, a friend found me and immediately rushed me to the emergency room,” the actress wrote without giving more details.

Open a debate on mental health

After this suicide attempt, the actress put her career on hold and temporarily left social networks to focus on her mental health. She has now decided to share her story to open up a mental health debate within the Asian community in the United States.

“AsAms don’t talk enough about mental health issues,” the star argued. “While we celebrate victories quickly, more sensitive or uncomfortable questions are avoided “within our community,” she continued.

“Although I’m scared, I’ve decided it’s up to me to be brave and share my story so it can help others in this situation,” the actress wrote.

In her controversial 2019 tweet, she expressed her pain over the hit show’s revamp Hot off the press for a sixth season. For the actress, that meant she had to postpone her other projects at the time, which had left her “so upset” that she had to cry, in her own words on Twitter.

The backlash from this comment was fierce, with many internet users criticizing his lack of appreciation for the sitcom’s success.
