Regular sex is not only good for connecting with your partner, it also allows women to enter menopause later.

Women who are regularly sexually active beyond age 40 will experience menopause later. That’s what a study found. You can find out why this is the case and how often “regular” means here!

A fulfilling sex life has many benefits: it makes you happy, strengthens the bond with your partner and has positive effects on your health. This is also proven by a study that women who also have regular sex after the age of 40 reach menopause later.

Late menopause through regular sex

Scientists have studied the link between regular sex and the onset of menopause. With a clear result – Pro Sex.

For the American study, about 3,000 women aged 45 and over were asked about their sex life over a ten-year period. At the start of the study, the women were not yet menopausal and had two children on average. How often they had sex and their preferences played a part in the survey. At the same time, other factors such as estrogen levels, physical and mental health, education level and weight were measured.

Result: women who had sex at least once a week and did so regularly were 28% less affected by the early onset of menopause than those who had sex less than once a month. For women who even enjoy pleasurable moments several times a week, the chances of not reaching menopause until well over 52 are particularly high.

Incidentally, position and practice played no role in the effect. Any sexual variety delays the onset of menopause. It also showed that women in long-term relationships had more sex than single people. A ten-year marriage is not the death of all eroticism.

Grandmother hypothesis confirmed

For scientists, the results of the study are proof of the so-called “grandmother’s hypothesis”. According to this, in women who are sexually inactive or not very active, the impulse is given earlier to complete the female cycle with ovulation and menstruation, in order to provide energy to the offspring which is already there. “This way, women can stay fit and healthy and take care of the family even as they age,” says Megan Arnot.

It is common in many societies for the grandmother to play an important role in the care of grandchildren. A phenomenon not found in the animal kingdom.

Arnot’s advice to all women concerned about the side effects of menopause: “If you want to delay the onset of unpleasant side effects like hot flashes, it’s a good idea to try having more of sexual relations.
