Mercato Mercato – OM: The identity of the mysterious central defender revealed! – Football

Hours after L’Equipe’s announcement of the imminent arrival in Marseille of a central defender whose name had not been filtered out, several sources released his identity on Friday. Chancel Mbemba will sign OM at the end of his contract with FC Porto.

Chancel Mbemba arrives at OM

With a bit of excitement, the Marseille supporters started their day this Friday. The reason ? In the day’s edition, L’Equipe announced the imminent arrival of a new centre-back, whose name had not been filtered out. Enough to start the debates about the transfer window of the Public Prosecution Service in the city of Marseille for a few hours.

A former player from Porto is coming!

The identity of this defender is now known: it is Chancel Mbemba. The information was launched by Marseille supporter Titi, a very knowledgeable local celebrity known for posting a photo of all new Marseille recruits when they arrive in Marseille, sometimes 24 or 48 hours before signing. This has been confirmed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Our colleague, transfer specialist and very reliable source, indicates that the 27-year-old defender is about to undergo a medical check before committing himself to Marseille for three years, i.e. until 2025. The Public Prosecution Service has not had to pay a transfer fee since the arrival of the player released after the end of his contract with FC Porto, where he had declined an extension to take on a new challenge.

A very interesting recruit

Unless there’s a twist, Mbemba will become OM’s third summer recruit after Samuel Gigot and Isaak Tour, who also play in central defence. At the beginning of June, his name was already circulating in Marseille. The Congolese international was one of the avenues investigated by the Public Prosecution Service to strengthen the defensive sector. Marseille leaders have since continued to work on this dossier to complete the arrival of an experienced player who has played 26 Champions League appearances in his career.

Fast, physical and endowed with a good quality of recovery, the Kinshasa native has been an essential element of Porto: he started in every match he played in the last two seasons, i.e. 43 starts in 2020-2021 and 47 in 2021-2022 ! It is therefore a very interesting and reliable player who lands on the Canebire to join the team of the new coach Igor Tudor.
